The quick reference user guide is your first point of call for step-by-step guidance on the JCT Digital Service tools you use everyday including: editing, the Clause Library, saving drafts and Print Credits.

User FAQ

• Is there a cost for printing contracts?

  You can print as many versions of your draft contract as you wish free of charge.

  To print out the final version of your contract you will need to buy Print Credits to the value of the hardcopy version contract you are printing.

  Each print credit is worth £1+ VAT. You will need to purchase the amount to cover the cost of your contract. E.g. if the cost of the hardcopy contract is £18.14, you will need to buy £19 worth of Print Credits.

  A reminder of the cost of your contract is given when you press ‘Print’ or you can check the JCT Contracts’ Pricelist. The prices of hardcopy contracts can be found here

• How do I buy print credits?

  To buy print credits, contact the supplier of your JCT Digital Service (Thomson Reuters, RICS or RIBA). Contact details available here.

• When are new CDs issued?

  Usually twice a year, depending on the volume of new contracts and upgrades to the software. You will have access to updated and new contracts through online updates.

• How can I be sure I am using the most current version of a contract?

  Your will be prompted to ‘check for document updates’ when you log in. You can also check for updates at anytime by clicking File, then Check for document updates.

  You will then be able to select the updated contracts you wish to download. Full instructions are available here

  If you have a network version of the software, it will update automatically.

• Can I email a contract to my client?

  Please follow the instructions in the Quick Reference User Guide.

• Can I print out a draft contract in colour so I can see the tracked changes?

  No, the document will only print out in black and white, but user changes to JCT text will still be shown as tracked.

• When amending contracts it would be helpful to be able to print off a list of all the questions/variables that must be completed for each particular contract

  A list of questions and answers can be appended to the print out by selecting the check box "include answers at the end" in the print dialog. This does not distinguish between required and optional questions however.

• How do I print a range of pages in draft mode?

Networked service and subscription FAQ

• I am a current subscriber to JCT Contracts Digital Service - when can I change my subscription to be networked?

  You can change your subscription to networked subscription at any time. To change your subscription, contact the supplier of your JCT Digital Service (Thomson Reuters, RICS or RIBA). Contact details available here.

• Can I install the JCT Contracts Digital Service on my company intranet?

  Yes, you can network the JCT Digital Service, using the CD uploaded onto your server. To change to a networked version, contact the supplier of your JCT Digital Service (Thomson Reuters, RICS or RIBA). Contact details available here.

• What happens to the files I'm working on when I change my subscription to a networked subscription?

  Please ensure you save all files that you are working on as User Files. These will be saved onto your system and be available for you to use once the networked system has been uploaded.

• How do I buy print credits now that the digital service is networked?

  The process for purchasing Print Credits is the same for the networked digital service.
